We will be taking a ship (Celebrity Constellation) to Barcelona and then flying to France. I understand that ships are now using a new cruise port further from the city. Would you know if cabs are readily available at the new port, what the cost might be and how long it might take to get to the airport? Thank you!!!
Of course cab will be available. Sort of line bees to honey. Your ship probably with provide transportation to the airport. Check with your ship.
They built a new port to remove all those large ships from Barcelona’s harbor.
Barcelona does not have a new cruise port. What has happened is that the two closest in terminals (at the exact bottom of The Ramblas) which handled the smaller ships have been or are being closed.
Otherwise the cruise port is where it has been for many years- a short distance from the bottom of the Ramblas. That has multiple terminals along it's length.
Taxis will be at all terminals in use that day, but of course sheer pressure of numbers may lead to a line for one.
According to 'what's in port' it should take around 35 minutes and cost no more than 40 Euros to the airport.
There are no plans to move the port, and even if there were such major construction projects take very many years to come to fruition. There are plans for a new competing port at Tarragona, but unless you have been specifically told you are berthing there, you aren't, you are berthing in Barcelona.
The most recent development was a new terminal opened in 2018 at the end of the strip of terminals- for the LPG Carnival family of ships. You are not docking there.
Did Celebrity tell you that you will be using the new cruise port?
Celebrity will probably offer transportation to the airport from the cruise port?
However I also believe there is public transport from the new cruise terminal to the airport.
Thank you all so much for clarifying port/transport info! Almost ready to go!!
@isn31c perfect answer, I feel I have nothing more to add :)
