Transportation company from airport to hotel in Barcelona

Hi Everyone, we are traveling to Barcelona and would prefer not to take public transportation after 24 hours of traveling from the airport to the hotel. Would you recommend hiring a taxi or reserving a car/shuttle ahead of time. If a car/shuttle is recommend does anyone have a reputable company they have used?

Thanks!

we've used a transfer company that we found on Viator. Personally, I find it more convenient to use a taxi. It's not terribly expensive. And if you're exhausted from flying and traveling, we find it to be worth our money. The only time it becomes a bit of a concern is if we have an early flight in the morning and we need transportation from the hotel to the airport. In that case, we arrange it with the front desk the night before. Other than that, taxis are safe and inexpensive.

Many on this forum suggest using a taxi in Barcelona. Good threads on this. We will be there in one mnth…we are a family group and will need 3.

Taxis from Barcelona airport are super easy. You literally come down the escalators and there they are. I actually think taxis are much easier than a prearranged shuttle because then you don’t have to find a specific location or vehicle. You just get in the first available taxi. If you’re worried about the language barrier, bring a piece of paper that has your hotel name and address pre-printed on it that you can hand to the driver.

Why pay extra for a meet and greet service? Walk out the exit doors and take a taxi.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm glad to know getting a taxi is convenient in Barcelona. I'll have to research how much it would cost from the airport to our hotel. Thanks again!

We flew into Barcelona a month ago and used a car service recommened by our hotel, Welcome Pickups. We used this service because we were unsure about the taxis. While the service was convenient and just as easy to find as the taxis right outside the baggage claim, it was more expensive. As others have noted, taxis in Barcelona are very easy and surprising inexpensive. We found this to be true in Madrid, Seville, and Granada as well, and used taxis for all our transfers between hotels and train stations / airports.

Enjoy your trip. Spain is wonderful.

Thank you everyone! I have a follow-up question. Do the taxis take credit cards or do they only accept cash?

  • Taxis in Barcelona are easy to spot, they are ALL painted black and yellow.
  • They all have the same price (tariff system), which is regulated by the City Hall and changes annually
  • They can be taken at the taxi stops -no cherry-picking, one must take the first in the line of cars. Also, when circulating, whenever you see the green pilot light on the roof turned on (which means it's available), you can stop them simply by raising your hand.
  • A journey from the airport to say the City centre in Ciutat Vella district (which includes the neighbourhoods of El Gòtic, el Raval, la Ribera or la Barceloneta among others), should cost around 35-40€, including all the extras (scenario: weekday from 8am to 8pm)
  • They all accept major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard). American Express, as you all know, is NOT a major credit card outside the US, so it might not be accepted in many(most!) businesses, including taxis.
  • They tend to be honest, albeit some rotten apples exist. If in doubt, drop in the conversation with the driver that you'll need "a receipt for the ride". It's your key should you need/want to file a complaint later (at the Barcelona Transport Authority). This might deter some of them from unnecessarily 'extending the ride' to the destination.
  • English is spoken (or at least mumbled) by most local drivers, also knowing that many drivers are non-nationals themselves and might come from English-speaking countries (or more precisely, from countries where 'English is widely spoken')

Having said, public transportation (bus, metro, tramway, train) in this part of the world is VERY convenient for moving around. It's safe, inexpensive, clean, efficient and easy to navigate. I strongly advise considering it when in Barcelona.
