If you want to be near the station where the train to Sarria leaves from, you want to stay near Chamartin. Of course, double check the station when you look at tickets for your specific dates.

If you google “Madrid Airport to Chamartin train station”, it will tell you the distance. When we were in Madrid in 2019, the price for a taxi from the airport to city center was a fixed price, if that is what you are trying to determine.

You take a commuter train to the 3rd stop from Terminal 4--run by Cercanias. Get off at Charmatin-Clara-Campoamor (Madrid Station).

Get on the Alva train (run by Renfe) 04325 Lugo.

It's 4 hours and 22 minutes to Sarria--8 stops.

From the airport we took metro line 8 to Nuevo Ministerios station and switched to line 10. From there we went to the 3rd stop Plaza de Castilla since our hotel was a minute or so walk from it. We stayed at Hotel Via Castellana on Paseo de la Castellana 220 for one night to get over jet lag. It was a nice hotel with a good breakfast buffet. Chamartín station is an easy 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The station itself isn’t very large so it was easy to get to the correct platform.

When we went in 2019 it was to walk the last 70 miles of the Camino and we allotted a couple extra days to visit Lugo and its UNESCO world heritage site Roman Wall. We took the train from Chamartín to Lugo, then the short ride from Lugo back to Sarria.
