Are there any recommended transfer companies to drive for adults from San Sebastien to Bordeaux? All of the quotes that I have received thus far are approximately US$800. Interested to see if there any strong recommendations, but, also to see if there are other lower cost (non bus) options.
When is this going to be?
This can be done by train, and some sanity is finaly returning to RENFE-SNCF relations. From October the San Sebastian suburban trains will be extended to Hendaye again. Until then you can still take Euskotren from San Sebastion to Hendaye every half hour for a few euros. From Hendaye there are plenty of trains to Bordeaux. And from next year there will be TGVs from Irun.
You could also maybe split the difference, and get a transfer to Hendaye and go by train from there.
A transfer all the way to Bordeau is going to be expensive, as it is a long drive, and you are paying for the return trip as well.
In a few years there should be a half hourly regional service from San Sebastian all the way to Dax, finally giving French and Spanish Basque country the service they need.
Buses (coaches) in Spain are a great alternative to train. They are modern, totally safe, clean, wifi, toilet, with amenities and food. And very, very affordable. On this itinerary, bus takes around 2,5h-3h only.
A private transfer is expensive as there are many expensive tolls on this route. And gas prices are crazy now, getting close to 10USD a gallon. Plus, the transfer includes on its quote a 21% VAT.
I would take the train or the bus on this route. Buses are much nicer and more comfortable than what we used to in N. America (US/Canada). I would say the cost of $800 is probably the lowest you will find espcially with tolls, gas, etc. What's more, if you get caught in any kind of traffic (holidays, accident, etc.) it can take even longer. Look at your train and/or bus options. It will cost you a fraction of the price and they are quite comfortable.
Thank you.
