Trains to Montserrat - restrooms, how to buy advance tickets

A friend and I will be in Barcelona in August, and would like to take a day trip to Montserrat. I understand it's about an hour each way.

My friend needs to be able to access a restroom with no more than a 10-15 minute delay. Do the R5 trains from Barcelona to Montserrrat have restrooms on board?

Also, I can't seem to find the correct web site to buy train tickets in advance. Can somebody direct me to the correct one?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum! According to this Reddit thread, there are toilets on the train.

The R5 is equipped with FGC 213 multi-units of three cars each. There are toilets in the motor (end) cars. The center car has storage space for luggage and bicycles but no toilet. Since this is a multi-unit there is no problem moving between cars.

The FGC trains from Plaça Espanya do have bathrooms. Not 5 star, but good enough. Used one on Saturday on the R6 to Igualada. I'd recommend bringing disinfecting wipes and a pack of kleenex just in case.

This is the official Montserrat website:

I haven't yet been to Montserrat, but here's a webpage that seems to describe the transportation situation well: https://www.earthtrekkers.com/day-trip-montserrat-barcelona-spain/. I don't know that there's much advantage to buying train tickets in advance as opposed to just arriving at Place de Espanya station (which is underground) a few minutes early and using one of the machines.
