Train trouble

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a train that leaves from sants station in Barcelona to the airport at 4 a.m.

I arrive in Barcelona from Madrid at 12 a.m and was going to kill some time at a bar then go back to sants at 4 a.m. then head for the airport.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

George,

Have you considered traveling to Barcelona the afternoon before your flight, & staying at an airport hotel for your early flight?

I would not risk missing my flight back to the US ;-)

ABOUT BUSES...

Not that makes any practical difference to the comment above, but Aerobus is a public-private venture run by a private company. Their buses are not integrated in the ATM (Metropolitan Transport Area) fare system thus the travel cards (T10, HolaBCN, etc) cannot be used in these buses. They have no travel cards but single tickets (or return tickets also) that are purchased on board (5.90€ each way). The buses are light blue with the word AEROBUS across the sides. The journey takes approx 35' from the airport to the city centre and there are buses every 10' or so and they operate from 5am to pass midnight.

The red buses(1) -a.k.a. regular buses- are run by the ATM Authority and offer a variety of travel cards such as the T-10, which offers 10 journeys for merely 10€. Also special travelcards for visitors, the HOLABCN card, which offers unlimited journeys on Barcelona public transport for one price plus discounts in certain attractions. Nevertheless, it's hardly good value for money for most visitors noting that one will probably take the bus/metro/tram much less that initially expected while visiting Barcelona. This is a city designed for walking. The buses operate from 5am to 11pm-1am depending on the day/line. One can download the map of buses here but there's an online planner which is far easier to use: https://maps.tmb.cat/en/vullanar There are also white+green and yellow buses, but those lines operate between Barcelona and cities/towns within the metropolitan area (ie. Castelldefels, Badalona, etc.)

There are also blue buses -a.k.a. night buses- operated by NitBus. They operate from 10ish pm to 5ish am. There is a reduced number of lines (18 night lines vs 99 day lines) and serve not only the city but also the connections with many metropolitan cities and towns. Their frequency though is also reduced. The same travelcards and rules than for the day lines apply, but note that the HolaBCN! is NOT valid for these buses.

(1) Note that the red double deckers are not regular buses, but they belong to one of the two hoho bus companies in the city,
