I will be taking the train from Gerona to Barcelona and several of the options I want only allow me a 25 minute connection time. Do you think that is wise or should I give myself a larger window. Having never been to that train station or traveled the trains in Spain I do not know if they are always on time nor if the distance between trains in the station is a long walk. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
Gerona to Barcelona Sants station is a direct route with no connections. What site are you using and what day and time are you traveling?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that my connecting train is to Madrid from Barcelona. To repeat.... Gerona - Barcelona- Madrid. Thinking of traveling around noon. I checked on a Renfe site that had a direct train from Gerona to Barcelona but there are no trains on the day in October I want to travel so I have to connect through Barcelona.
You have an onward connection at Sants ??
I would book the Gerona to Barcelona part separately from Barcelona to Madrid as those trains are very frequent and the price is set at 16 euros. Give yourself an hour between the arrival time and the departure time from Barcelona to Madrid
Hi Mary
Firstly to mention that you're using the name of the city in Spanish, but Catalan, not Spanish, is the local language here in Catalonia, thus the city name is GIRONA and this is the way you'll find it written in the signs. Also, and this is the important bit, you'll find it this way in all local sites online and remember a computer does only yield results if the word exactly matches the search -generally speaking, that is.
Saying so because, albeit in this case is rather obvious that Girona and Gerona refer to the same city (in different languages), it's not always the case, as Catalan and Spanish are not the same. It's always better to ensure you refer your towns and cities in the local language, Catalan in this case, otherwise, as it recently happened to a member of the forum, you might end up having a hard time finding information about the place you are trying to go :))
As per your question.... there are both high-speed and regular trains every single day of the year... I don't understand why you say " but there are no trains on the day in October"... which day is that?.... did you type in "Girona"?
Thank you for that reminder regarding the correct spelling of Girona. On Renfe website they did not have a schedule for the week I wanted to travel. I contacted them and they said to check a week before. Quite confusing. So I went on a different website... Loco2 I believe it is and bought direct ride from Girona to Madrid on the date in October I wanted. Sure hope that works. Not sure why I could on one site and not another. Thank you all for your help.
