Train travel between Barcelona and Paris

My research is showing that train travel between Barcelona and Paris is going to be about 9 hours with at least a couple of changes. I'm surprised by this, thought it would be quicker and direct. Am I missing something?

There's a couple of direct trains each day. 6 hours and 33 minutes. Check Captain Train or the French rail site for schedules. There's one at about 9:30 am and one at about 1:15. There's even more in the summer.

No, look on a map, it is long ways. From experience with flying, I know Americans often have the idea that major cities are connected by direct trains. Just doesn't work that way. My bench mark is about 6 hours before I consider flying. You might look at some to the discount airlines. We like easyJet. Also, look at dbahn.de for all of the European train schedules. Also if looking out more than about six months all of the train schedules may not be posted. Use a three month window for scheduling options.

Barcelona and Paris are indeed connected by a direct train, called either AVE (if it's run by the Spanish operator) or TVG (if done by the French counterpart), in any case it means "high speed train". Distance is around 800 miles and it takes 6h30'. If I recall correctly, there are 2 or 3 trains per day, each way (weekdays). No changes are involved.
