Train to Ronda

I will be traveling to Ronda at the end of May and staying for (1) night. Coming from Granada and then heading to Madrid. It looks like there may be some construction or shut downs between Antequera-Santa Ana and Ronda during this time. There are no MD trains available, only (1) Intercity train per day. Looking for recommendations on alternate options.

  • We could just book the Intercity option - The Intercity times are less ideal than other typical times. Also the train from Granada includes a 1.5 hr interchange which isn't great. However train from Madrid will be slower, but is direct and overall 20 min faster than typical MD/AVE options earlier in the day.

OR

  • We could rent a car in Granada, return the car Cordoba, and then same day take an AVE train from Cordoba to Madrid. Driving would give us more flexibility on times, and allow a few more hours in Ronda. However this would be the only driving portion of the trip and I'm just not sure if it would be better to stick with the trains.

Thank You!

There are no MD trains available

We are in Spain at the moment and have caught a couple of MD trains. We could only book tickets around 14-21 days in advance.

Have you looked at bus schedules? Buses work well in southern Spain and they do have bathrooms. J

There only seem to be buses from Seville.
Apart from that they run from Malaga, Fuengirola and other coastal towns. I did bus from Fuengirola, then train back via Antequera and Malaga. If only because bus both ways is too easy for me!!

Spanish buses are comfortable, but in my experience you cannot always count on a toilet, and toilets that exist are sometimes kept locked. The drivers are supposed to stop every 2 hours or so, which they did--except for the one occasion the driver decided it was more important to make up time after leaving late on an 8-hour trip. That was annoying.
