Is it too early to book the AVE trains from Madrid to say Segovia for a March date? I went to the renfe site and didn't see any trains available. I then went to the Trainline and Omio sites and they only listed OUIGO trains but it was a bit later in the morning than I wanted. I also visited Rail.Ninja and they showed renfe train tickets available for purchase so I am wondering if those are valid tickets or not and if maybe the renfe has released its schedule yet. Thanks
I would say too early for march. Renfre really does not have a consistent policy, and if there is no competition on a route, you may not see tickets until 30 days ahead. I would check at 90 days, and then 60 days out if needed.
The good news is that it is a relatively short ride, not expensive, I have bought tickets a couple times right before departure. Trains are frequent, many use them for commuting. You do need to input your passport number to buy tickets, or present it, if buying from the counter.
On Renfre, you do want Madrid Chamartin as the departure station, not the more common Atocha.
Rail Ninja is a third-party seller to avoid, as far as I can tell. It charges a great deal more than the operating railroads do.
