I am not having luck booking a train from Madrid-Atocha to Granada.

Are you trying to book online? RENFRE? If you are trying RENFRE and finding it difficult, try loco2 or trainline, they are a little more user friendly. I believe you can now take a high speed train (AVE) between Madrid and Granada.

As stated, try loco2.com. It shows the busses and trains. Sometimes the Renfe site doesn’t work as it’s supposed to. Right now the Renfe site is only showing trains to Granada through 14 October.

Yes you are probably searching too far in advance. RENFE has not been following a set time for when they make trains available for purchase. You have to check everyday
