Train ticket exchanges

Hi,
I have purchased all of my train tickets for our trip in a couple of weeks. We are going to Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada. If we are in one of these places and need to catch an earlier/later train, is it possible to exchange our tickets?
Thanks in advance for your input. (And yes, I booked my Alhambra tickets already. :-)

That depends on the fare rules of the tickets you bought, and should be printed on them somewhere, or on a booking summary. If you chose discounted fares, then they generally are not refundable or changeable.

If you paid the full, "flexible" rate on a route, then it would be changeable at a train station within certain parameters. If you can't find info on your tickets, you can poke around at http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/tarifas/billete_flexible.html, but there are many variables there.

Cayce,

As Laura has mentioned, you can only change the "flexible" (full fare) tickets, but not the discounted ( Promo) tickets.

If you purchased Promo + tickets, you'll have to pay 20% change fee plus the price difference of the new ticket.

You can find out about the possibility of changing your train tickets once you arrive to Spain, or you can call Renfe at +34- 902 320 320, they answer 24/7.

Have a wonderful trip!

Thank you both. Hopefully we won't need to change our train tickets, but you never know if you'll need to leave early when traveling with kids.

Hi OP! It doesn't hurt to ask the Renfe staff. I am not sure if we had general tickets or promo (the tickets don't specify), but were able to catch an earlier train back from Toledo for no extra charge. Good luck!
