We will be doing several day trips from Madrid to Toledo, Segovia and maybe Salamanca, then travelling by train to Barcelona and doing day trips from there to Girona and Montserrat. Is there a one pass kind out option where we do not need to buy separate tickets for each of those legs? Is it economical if available? Thank you!
Read the reliable Man in Seat 61 for information on passes versus separate tickets. Your having only one long-distance trip, I very much doubt whether a pass is a good deal.
You can see an overview of pass and ticket prices at https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/spain-rail-passes. A pass + seat reservations is not cheaper when you only have one long train ride and the others are quite short and cheap. Since most Spanish trains require seat reservations, it also doesn't add any convenience.

Does that schematic map show a price of USD 120 for Madrid to Barcelona? Bought in advance with the Renfe it can be as cheap as EUR 65, with EUR 75-80 a typical price, depending on the time of day.
