We will be renting a car in Sevilla for at least a few days and deciding whether to return in Granada or Valencia. If we decide to drive to Valencia, where would you stop? Could include an overnight.
There are basically two routes to get to Valencia from Granada.
the northern route takes you by Jaén, Baeza, Übeda, and Manzanares. Near Manzanares is the village of Almagro, on Spain’s list of prettiest villages. At Manzanares you’d head east to Valencia. There are no wow villages between Manzanares and Valencia. Baeza and Úbeda are UNESCO heritage sites.
the southern route takes you by Vélez-Blanco Castle and Lorca castle, then up to Murcia City. It is nice to walk around for a couple hours and relax. It has no wow sites. From there you’d pass El Palmeral. If you like castles, Biar and Atalaya Castle aren’t far off the road to Valencia.
To me, the northern route provides more opportunities to see different aspects of Spain. Manzanares or Almagro would be nice places to spend a night. If you decide to stay in one of those towns, look into the Paradors in each.
