Train Help - Atocha

We are arriving in Madrid from Granada by train. Then, 45 minutes later, we are taking a separate train from Madrid to Toledo.

The tickets for Granada - Madrid (Ave) and Madrid-Toledo (Avant) were not purchased at the same time and so this is not a "connection" per se, but separately booked legs of our journey. Both legs were purchased through Rail Europe.

Upon arrival from Granada will we need to exit the station in Madrid and re-enter to go through security etc. to get on the train to Toledo?

Thanks!

You will just have to walk from the first train to the track for the second train. The security is at the entrance to the train. You won't leave the station.

LIZinPA is incorrect. At most stations in Spain security is upon entering the track. At Atocha, it’s upon entering the waiting area.

If you don’t go too far, you won’t have to go through security again.

Leaving the platform after your first train, stay in the immediate area near the platform entrances, but don’t follow the flow to the station exits. There are a couple shops and cafes in that space. Wait there for the track for the second train to be posted.
