I am trying to find trains from Seville to Granada in November. The Renfe site indicates that there is an 8 03 am train leaving Seville for Granada (with one train change in Cordoba) . I tried to book it but the site keeps giving me an error “the application is not available right now” right at the end on the booking process.
I’ve tried looking on the Trainline site, but they do not show any trains available for the day I am looking at … only bus schedules.
Any suggestions on the best way to book a train from Seville to Granada … or is the bus a good alternative option?
Thank you.
Hi Joanne, You’ve run into a common problem with the national train company in Spain which is Renfe and it sounds like Renfe has not released all the tickets for the day you are looking at or its website is screwed up—as usual. Renfe is notorious for not putting all its available train tickets for sale simultaneously or according to any set schedule that any sentient being can comprehend.
The Trainline is showing 4 daily trains from Seville to Granada in November. You also might try another well-reviewed agency at www.Petrabax.com and scroll down the page to “Spain by Train- Renfe.” Petrabax is also showing 4 daily trains. ( Does anyone at Renfe wonder why its own website isn’t selling online tickets for some of its own trains)?
The fastest trains do the Seville to Granada route in 2.75 hours, but the 8x daily Alsa buses drive it in just 3 hours for $20 less.
The Trainline’s computers and Petrabax’s system are both linked to Renfe’s ticketing system, so they know all the trains Renfe has plus the trains of other train companies, such as IRYO and Ouigo. Apparently outside companies know that Renfe has 4 daily trains but Renfe hasn’t yet received the memo.
The Trainline’s website is easy to use, doesn’t have constant glitches, as Renfe is notorious for, and Trainline’s payment system works, unlike Renfe’s.
I just took the bus in the opposite direction yesterday (Granada to Seville). It was painless for me… get on and essentially napped for 3 hours. Was very on time and most of the trip is on a highway, so mostly uneventful as well.
I went with the bus just because it was much easier to work into my schedule, especially with more travel option.
Thank you for your input !
I will take the bus from Seville to Granada.
Ditto we took the bus you can see the landscape better in the two lane highway than on the train. The ride was mellow over in no time.
We are taking the bus from Granada to Seville in December as well. Acraven and others here recommended. There are many more times offered versus the three direct trains.
Thank you for this question and helpful answers. This will be very useful for us the first week of January.
When I searched Google Flights for multi stop transportation (London to Seville, Seville to Granada, Granada to Madrid, Madrid to London), it showed only one train/day from Seville to Granada, which was at night with a 1-2 hour layover in Cordoba. Booking the trains on Trainline or taking the bus, as described here, sounds so much better.
Thanks for the travel advice. We took the bus from Sevilla to Granada … Super Easy!
Can you arrange a bus ride in advance? And where online can you do that?
My biggest concern is getting from Seville to Granada on January 2 or 3. With luggage.
@ Woody Jo- Bus bookings are currently open for January 2 and 3 with Alsa (30 Euros per person fare)- https://www.alsa.com/en/web/bus/home
