I am signed up for the 10 day Andulucia trip in late October. I am flying in and out of Madrid, and plan to spend a few nights in Madrid after my tour. My tour starts in Cordoba and I am wondering if any one knows how I can get to Cordoba from the Adolfo Suarez Madrid airport. Can I take the Renfa train from the airport (or any train) to Cordoba or do I need to get to the Atocha train station from the airport and then take the train to Cordoba? Also what suggestions does anyone have for must see in Madrid.
It depends a bit on which airline/terminal you are landing in. But you cannot just
take Renfe from the airport directly.
From T4, which is Iberia, you can take a commuter (Cercanias) train from Barajas to
Atocha. You leave the lower area where the commuter trains are and go upstairs
(to the left if you are facing the station, not the commuter trains) to the long-distance
tracks, where trains to Cordoba leave from.
From any terminal, you can take the Metro, but you will have to change lines to get
to Atocha.
You also have the option of taking the bus, which is probably your best option if you
are not landing at T4.
If you have a Renfe ticket to Cordoba in hand, the train to downtown Madrid is free
(but not the bus).
Córdoba, not Cordoba
The easiest is to take a taxi from the airport to Atocha and take the IRYO train to Cordoba. There is a waiting room in the hotel across the street and the trains are sleek and new; you can even have a meal served (more a snack, really). And they have wonderful services for mobility-impaired persons.
