Train fares from Granada

In planning our trip to Spain in the Fall, I am trying to obtain some estimates of 2nd class train fares for Granada to Córdoba, and for Granada to Madrid, but I am having no luck. I have tried Renfe and raileurope websites among others, for August, September and October for sample fares, but no success. Does anyone know what an estimated ticket cost would be for those two routes? Thanks! Pam.

Based on their website: Cordoba starts around 26 euros and Madrid around 68 euros. Currently they are working on the tracks and you will have to take a bus from Granada train station and then transfer to the train at Antequerra. I'm not sure how long this setup will last.

Thanks for the update. Does anyone know how much longer this bus reroute adds to the trip? Any better transportation ideas leaving to/from Granada? Thanks

You simply look at an imminent date for whatever route, these are the (summer) schedules and costs until November. No one should be using anywhere but RENFE for true information and cost or the agency with least mark up loco2.com

Little or nothing or possibly quicker. What have you got to compare with apart from bus?

'Any better transportation ideas leaving to/from Granada?'- Bus www.alsa.es is your alternative but no idea what you want from 'better'.

I actually just did a phone consult with Rick's staff about this yesterday. They advised taking the AVE train south and then taking the bus to Grenada as others above advised. We also looked at flying from Madrid to Grenada, it is just over a one hour flight on Iberia and costs about $225. There are about 3 flights a day on weekdays and less on week ends. They said the actual train schedules will be up in a few weeks for Sept. but just use current ones for planning. We haven't decided yet but are leaning towards the train/bus.

@jgsmom... I doubt you wanna take the bus to "Grenada" -that's in the Caribbean and it'd certainly be a problem crossing the Atlantic on a bus- better try Granada instead :))))

As a rule of thumb, booking at the Renfe website (as well as some other European rail companies) is restricted to the next 62 days I believe. There's a growing number of rail companies acting much like the airlines and modulating their offer (that is, prices!) according to demand so they don't allow booking beyond a few weeks in advance.

When you add up the extra time involved in flying, the "break-even" point is usually a land journey of 5-6 hours. If by land, it's less than 5, do it. If it's more than 6 fly. If it's 5-6, consider the costs, the schedules, and the hassles. My sense is that most of us on the forum would rather take the train (or bus). The train is great and you can walk around. The bus is a bit more restrictive but still very comfortable.

When you consider the added time and cost to get to/from airports, plus the stress and general unpleasantness - waiting in line, going through security checks, liquid restrictions . . . need I go on? Even if you flew to Spain with only cabin baggage, chances are the short flight will have my lower allowances and you'll have to check your bags and then wait for them on arrival.
