My husband and I are going to Spain for 10 days in April 2024. We were told last year that tourist visas would be required after January 1, 2024 for any travel to Spain. Now we heard that requirement has been postponed. Does anyone know what is really required? I contacted the Spanish consulate and I received very contradictory responses.
Also, does Spain require proof of medical insurance upon entry?
Scudder’s link is from the official ETIAS website, so it’s the most up to date information. Proof of medical insurance is not normally needed to be shown upon entry to Spain.
To cut to the chase, the tourist visa you mention (EITAS) has been delayed, again, so no need to fill out anything before you go.
In regards to health insurance, yes, they can ask for proof of health insurance, as well as proof of sufficient funds for the trip, and several other things. However, they rarely ever ask. If you have a health insurance policy, your covered (at least for their purposes), if you do not, or you have a Medicare policy that does not cover you outside the US, you need to seriously consider some type of trip medical insurance, that to would suffice.
Thank you everyone for your quick and helpful responses! Makes me feel a lot better about our trip.
