Tour suggestions needed (family of 4, two young kids) + finally Spain itinerary

Hi all,

Thank you for your help and responses as we dial in our itinerary through Spain. I wanted to share our finally itinerary now that things are booked, and I’ll share an update of how it went to help others if that is requested.

As we have young kids we are traveling with a slower pace and we oriented all our stops around good award flight deals we got so the timing feels wonky on paper but it works.

I’m not looking to cram in as much as possible, I am more interested in living like a local when we can and adventuring when we have energy.

Barcelona - 5 days
- request: any kid friendly foodie tours or private trivets to costa brava you might recommend? Would love a beach day/Blanes visit

Valencia - 6 days, partial work stop. Some asked why so long here, part of it is because it’s near friends who live here so a visit will be great and will give us a solid landing for some remote work to catch up.

Seville - 5 days, many said “don’t, it’s too hot!” I know, we will figure it out even if we just hang by the pool, we have a great hotel set up and will explore as we can. Also, we are coming from the hottest city on earth so I think we can deal. Any foodie tours we should check in on?

Madrid - 6 days, I don’t want to hear it, we were at the mercy of the miles flights 🤪 day trips to Toledo, etc any other suggestions? Tours that are kid friendly you can recommend?

After this we head to Ireland (again, miles flight haha) for a road trip. Will post that itinerary in the Ireland forum.

Thanks all, I get a lot of wisdom from the threads here.

Kids ages are 6 and almost 4. Interests for them are really just playgrounds at this age - for us it’s wine/foodies, local culture

Kids might like a trip in a horse drawn carrriage in Seville, but go early or late to avoid the highest temperatures - for you and the horses.
In Madrid, the Retiro Park next to the Prado is a really nice park, with a statue of a polar bear.

How about train to Segovia, for the aqueduct.

Consider a day trip from Madrid to Segovia north of Madrid.
The city is great and has a 1800 year old intact Roman Aqueduct.

A couple of points about playgrounds in Spain...they sure seem to have a bunch scattered across the cities. I am always amazed when wandering in the mid-to-late evening, stumble across an active square with folks out eating & drinking, and a kids' playground with youngsters having a blast. Really neat.

And, Valencia has the nicest playground I've ever seen in a big city. I don't generally explore or look for them, so I could be way off, but the Parc Gulliver is a must see with kids (but a 4yr old might be a handful) and adults :-) It's right in the middle of the Turia, and the Turia should also be at the top of your "take the kids for a bike/scooter ride" list, too.
