Tough Decision - Dali Museum or Montserrat and Wine Tour?

Hi travelers! My fiance are going to Barcelona at the start of February and have ironed out most of our itinerary, except for one day we've set aside of a day trip! We like the idea of visiting the Salvador Dali museum because it looks really fun, but I also found a great wine tour that takes us to Montserrat, which was really high on our list of things to see. Plus, I just finished reading the new Dan Brown novel, and want to visit as many places as I can that are featured in the book. Has anyone visited the Dali museum or done a tour with Wine Tourism Spain? If so, I'd love your feedback on either or both!

The museum is spectacular and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting it.

EDIT: I've also visited the monastery at Montserrat and thought it was very impressive. Listening to the L'Escolania was truly special. Still, when returning to the area and if making a choice, I'd go to the Dali Museum...this from a person not bound to all things art.

We only have 4 days, so we only have one day to spare and still see Sagrada Familia, some other Gaudi sites, our food tour, Montjuic, and Sant Pau. That's why we have to choose.

I am in Barcelona as I write. I have stayed in Monseratt. It was wonderful for its purpose and importance of the Madonna. Re wines I am from N Calif and have a perference for calif wines. I find the spanish wines mediore and I have tried many at all price levels. If u have time in BCN take the tour of PAlau de Musica Catalan. Amazing catalan modernist architecture inside and out.

I hope this is helpful: I haven't been to either - but the company we used for day tours to Tarragona, Priorat Wine Country, and the Costa Brava/Girona also offers day tours to Montserrat and the Dali Museum. Reading their itineraries might help you decide where to go.

Absolutely do not miss Saint Pau!

This is so helpful, thank you! We've done a lot of traveling in the past six months (10 countries), but haven't done a wine tour yet, which is why we are considering it!

Both are worth visiting so it’s really what you want to do. One inside and one outside. Monserrat has walking trails as well as the church, so if you like the outdoors and the weather is nice, I’d lean towards it. If it’s raining, maybe go for the museum. You can’t lose with whichever you choose. Haven’t done a wine tour, but we did go to the wine festival during La Merce/Carrefoc back in 2006.

That is so true - the weather may play a factor. Unfortunately if we want to do the wine tour, we will need to book ahead. I guess this all just means we will need to come back again and do whichever one we don't choose!

The Dali Museum is so unique ; I recommend that you visit it. It is amazing, the creativity is mind boggling. Your first sight will be the building's exterior decorated with ceramics loaves of bread. Total whimsy. You can see other wineries and monasteries but there is only one Dali Museum.

I was in Barcelona for four nights in September with my two friends. One of them really, really wanted to see the Dali Museum and we all wanted to go to Montserrat, so we ended up doing both (and unfortunately, short-changing Barcelona). I personally loved Montserrat and would pick it over the Dali Museum if I had to make a choice between the two, but I'm not a Dali fan. However, the Dali Museum was interesting and I don't regret going there. While in Figueres, we also went to Castell de Sant Ferran, which is a large military fortress built over 200 years ago and we really enjoyed wandering around there for a couple of hours before our entrance time to the Dali Museum. It was only about a fifteen minute walk from the Dali Museum. Enjoy your trip!

I presume you will have more trips in the future.

Is it Montserrat that you really want to see or is it the wine tour that is appealing to you? Is Spanish wine important to you?
If you go to the Dali Museum instead, you can defer a wine tour to another future trip. Maybe France, Italy or Germany, even Australia... Depends on what kinds of wine you like.
