Torre Bellesguard, Sarria, Monestir de Pedralbes

Please tell me if this walking plan sounds doable. We plan to start at Torre Bellesguard (taking a taxi directly there). Walk down to Sarria, lunch and since I have a sweet tooth, Foix de Sarria. Walk to Monestir de Pedralbes. Maybe taxi home, maybe metro, depending on energy level. From Torre Bellesguard, is the best route to head down to Passeig de la Bonanova? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

  • Yes is perfectly doable
  • Yes, Passeig de la Bonanova is the best route

In any case, from Monestir de Pedralbes you'd need to walk Avinguda de Pedralbes to Avinguda Diagonal (15', downhill) to take the metro.

Also, be aware the monastery has reduced opening times (until 5pm in summer and just until 2pm in winter, on weekdays) as it's partly inhabited by nuns and they need to go about their chores. Check exact details: http://monestirpedralbes.bcn.cat/en and for those considering a visit, have a peek here: http://infocatalonia.eu/w/Qxhub

It's a very desirable (read expensive) neighbourhood, so time spent at street level is quite a pleasant experience. My Barcelona friend had his business just off Via Augusta, so I'm familiar with the general area, but have not walked the older part of Carrer Major de Sarria. You have inspired me for my next visit. So yes, if you are up for walking, I think it's a good idea.

I would continue after the monastery to the Gaudi gates at Finca Guell.

Then the pretty gardens at the Palau Real de Pedralbes and tram down Diagonal to get home.

Hi Enric, thanks for the info! On the Monestir de Pedralbes website it lists Saturday hours as: last admission at 8:30 pm. Is that incorrect?

Hi David, thanks for the suggestions! This is only our second visit to Barcelona, but we hope to make the most of our 9 days there.

@Carminia:
Monastir de Pedralbes?... that can't be. You're looking at the wrong site.
This is the official site with the official schedule: http://monestirpedralbes.bcn.cat/en/visit/opening_times_and_admission_fees

@David
Sarrià still conserves the flair of a town -much like Gràcia or Poblenou- with the added bonus that (1) being far from the center, mostly only neighbours pass by and (2) the District's City Hall regulations have helped to preserve the maximum height allowed for new buildings in the heart of Sarrià, therefore strolling the neighbourhood is indeed very cosy, very "town-like". This is Major de Sarrià street (major = main street): http://static.panoramio.com/photos/large/14906145.jpg

Thanks Enric.
Looks like a spot for a drink and a catch up.

Carminia, you seem on track for a wonderful visit. Enjoy.

@Enric

Looks like the info in both sites you've linked is incorrect, then. This could be very confusing for visitors! Thanks for the heads up. If you click on the link in your previous post, it lists summertime closing at 7pm on Saturdays.

@Carminia
I'm sorry, but what I've linked above IS correct... that's the official site for the Monastir de Pedralbes and the information is quite clear I think. It does clearly state the closing times and NONE says anything about 8:30 as you seem to suggest. Furthermore, if nothing has changed, last time I checked my dictionary "weekdays" -which is what I said!- meant Mon to Fri, right?
Please read carefully!

@Enric

Please don't assume that I'm not reading carefully. I've copied and pasted the hours from the first link you provided. This info is listed at the bottom of their website.

Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm (last admission 4.30pm)
Saturday from 10am to 9pm (last admission 8.30pm)
Sunday from 10am to 8pm (last admission 7.30pm)
Public holidays from 10am to 2pm (last admission 1.30pm)

Here is the info pasted from the second link you provided:

Summer time

From 1 April to 30 September
Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm
Saturday from 10am to 7pm

So you make my point: WEEKDAYS from 10-5, which is what I said in my initial post. Therefore my previous information is NOT wrong.

Thank you.

As per Saturday, which I never mentioned!, they have a typo... check out the Catalan or the Spanish version of the website and you'll see... 10-19h, and 19h is 7pm.

I want to make it clear for those accessing the English version of the website, that at the very bottom of the page, it lists this info:

Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm (last admission 4.30pm)
Saturday from 10am to 9pm (last admission 8.30pm)
Sunday from 10am to 8pm (last admission 7.30pm)
Public holidays from 10am to 2pm (last admission 1.30pm)

If there is a "typo" in the Saturday listing of the English version, then the information listed is incorrect, as I originally stated.

For clarity the website I'm looking at is:

Monestirpedralbes.bcn.cat/en

Thank you

Whatever Carminia... I think the info I provided is clear enough. Excuse me if I don't want to prolong this conversation. Enjoy your visit.

For anyone looking at the website:

Monestirpedralbes.bcn.cat/en

Note that there is incorrect information about the Saturday hours listed.

1) At the bottom of the main website page, in English, Saturday hours are listed as 10am to 9pm, last admission 830pm - with no distinction between summer hours and winter hours.

2) In a separate area of the SAME website, under "Opening Times and admission fees", Saturday closing is 7pm in summer and 5pm in winter, with entry allowed up to half an hour before closing.

So in addition to there being a "typo" there is also conflicting information about the Saturday closing time (2 different closing times listed) - which is definitely not clear to potential visitors accessing the English version of the website.
