I see there are two stations - Toledo and Oropesa de Toledo. Which one drops me in the most convenient location in relation to sight seeing? Thanks!
Toledo.
The other is near another town called Oropesa, at least 100 km away (Toledo is the name of the whole province as well as the specific city hence the "reuse", think of Oropesa de Toledo as Bufalo, NY, whilst Toledo is NYC).
Happy Wanderer,
Once you arrive to Toledo’s train station, you can take a bus, a taxi, or walk up to the city center which is at the top of a hill.
Here’s a helpful website explaining all these modes of transportation: Window to Toledo
Please note: prices may differ, especially those pertaining to taxis.
Keep in mind that Toledo gets extremely crowded during the day, so if you want to experience the magic of Toledo, do consider spending at least an overnight in this beautiful city.
If you plan to visit Toledo as a day trip, make sure you buy round trip train tickets.
Have a wonderful trip!
If you aren't in great shape, I suggest taking a taxi or the bus to the center of the city. I thought I'd save money by walking but it's a long hike up and there are a lot of taxis by the train station.
It isn't terribly obvious, but there is an escalator for part of the walk up. Still a very hilly town and that is the worst climb. Even to my frugal budgeting, it was worth the 5-6E for a taxi drop off at the hotel door.
It is a long walk (the bus station is closer than the train station, as I recall), but there are escalators to deal with most if not all of the elevation change.
And.......Although easily navigated alone, if you are considering a tour guide,
Adolfo Ferrero ([email protected]) is the absolute master of Toledo.
It's like walking around town with the mayor.....that guy knows everybody and everything that is Toledo.
We found that the cost of taxis in Toledo was quite reasonable.
Thanks everyone! Now I can buy my tickets and make all of the rest of my plans!
For what it's worth - the HoHo bus stops at the Toledo train station, too.
Take the time to enjoy the train station itself, which is beautiful.
