is there public transportation from the Toledo train station to the city/cathedral? If, so how early and how late do the buses run?
The bus L61 takes you to the center of town and then you walk to the cathedral
It runs from from 7:00 to 23:00
You catch it in front of the train station The stop is called PASEO DE LA ROSA (FRENTE A RENFE).
And then going back you catch from Zocadover Plaza
Thanks for the prompt response. It just dawned on me to ask if admission can be purchased on line or does one have to purchase tickets "at the door". From what I've read this is the Toldeo attraction and I'd guess the queue is quite long for tickets; if we could pre-purchase on line we'd do so.
In addition to the bus, you can take a taxi for about €10.
the Cathedral did not have line to get in when I went and it was free in 2014 July
they take donations
But that looks to have changed

You pay when you go; I doubt that there will be a line to get in.
There was a long line at the cathedral at the time of my 2016 visit, but I had the luck to hit a (religious) holiday weekend.
We were there last April on a Tuesday, late morning. We waited in line about 5 minutes to purchase tickets.
Yeah, I suppose it depends on the time of year, but generally...other than holy days, not much of a line, and no option to buy tickets online. Lots of other things to see, mainly related to El Greco, but the Alcazar and museum I found more interesting. We spent a couple nights there, really enjoyed some of the small restaurants and views from the city walls were great.
We were there in June/July. We took a cab from the train station to our hotel, which was up near the cathedral. It was a really fun ride up the narrow streets and through tunnels (kind of). I don't remember that it was expensive, either. Maybe 10 -15 Euros. We also noticed that the HoHo bus stops at the train station. Hope this is a bit helpful.
Taxi from our apt near the cathedral to the train station was 6 euro.
