Toledo to Madrid Airport - good idea or not?

I am really, really struggling to get everything fit for my trip. Is it realistic to leave Toledo and head straight for a 10:30 AM flight? I don't mind getting up early and we would book a car service. But I hear traffic can be tricky? Has anyone ever done this before?

Personally, I would not do it simply because the downside risk is very high. If you miss the 10.30 flight, what are the backup options? You have too many uncontrollable variables. For a flight, I prefer to be no more than a hour away with multi transportation options.

To me, too many things could possibly wrong between points A and B, so it’s out of my comfort level. We always drop off the rental car the day before departure and stay in Madrid our last night in country. If one mode of transport in Madrid isn’t operating, there are alternatives. If booking a service, I guess the greatest issue could be traffic, unless there is an accident that closes a road or two for a couple hours, or the car service shows up late. Toledo is southwest of Madrid while the airport is northeast of the city. With no traffic jams, the drive will take just over an hour, so you’d need to leave Toledo by 6:30 and that isn’t leaving any room for something to go wrong.

No personal experience, but putting a timeline together ( assuming your flight is US bound) would have me getting up around 3-330AM to be sure I got there with a bit of time to spare. What is your "don't mind getting up early" boundary?

Toledo is south of Madrid and the airport is on the north side of the city, so if Madrid is typical, the morning commute will be n/b into the city, so you would be part of the morning slog most of the way.

I agree with everyone don't do it! We spent the last night at the Hilton Madrid airport. We took the train to Atocha from Seville, went to the airport and caught the shuttle to the Hilton. The next morning we caught the shuttle to the airport early. Much more relaxing.

That is smart. We always stay at the Hotel Europa and take a taxi in the am. As I remember the taxi is only 30 minutes.
