Toledo to Granada/ Seville to Tavira

I previously asked about Toledo to Madrid. I meant to ask about Toledo to Granada. You were all very helpful about my other question and I apologize for bothering again but I am having difficulty getting this booked via renfe.com. It starts out in english but when the actual trip comes up it reverts to spanish . I have attempted to decipher but don't want to make a mistake. Any help would be appreciated.

My next issue is with going from Seville to Tavira . Would like to go by train if possible but bus would be acceptable. Driving is least desirable because of the cost of taking the car across the border.

With great appreciation.

For Toledo to Granada, you need two tickets. One to take you to Madrid (Atocha Station) and then from Atocha to Granada. I'd first get the Granada ticket and once you know that departure, figure out which train from Toledo works best to give you enough time to transfer (I'd give yourself at least an hour just to be safe). There is also no reason to buy the Toledo-Madrid ticket in advance; you can buy it the day before or anytime once you are in Spain (I wouldn't buy it that day just in case that train was booked full).

Be sure you pick the right Atocha Station on the RENFE website: Madrid: Puerta de Atocha.

Use Paypal to purchase the ticket.

Though from looking at a map, you would think Seville and Tavira ought to be a short train ride from each other, alas, it isn't so. The bus is your best option. I did it with a friend, many years ago, so my information might be out of date. However, at that time, the bus was comfortable and inexpensive; and the journey wasn't too long. You're absolutely correct about the cost of international drop-off fees on rental cars.

The Spanish train ends at Heulva and does not cross the border. For Tavira or other Algarve destinations, it's better to take the bus from Sevilla's Plaza de Armas bus station; see www.damas-sa.es, and pages 641 and 716 in Rick Steves' Spain.
