I'm wondering about whether Toledo and Segovia are both worth a day trip from Madrid in April. Also, does Toledo need 2 days and an overnight, or would a day trip suffice? We'll be in Madrid for 7 nights, so we would have the time. Thanks.
Both are worthwhile, in my opinion. Different sites, different vibes.
I have done what you propose - a day trip to Segovia and another day trip to Toledo - while staying in Madrid for 7 or 8 nights.
A day trip to Toledo will give you time for lots of sight seeing options. With 7 nights, I would opt for that rather than changing a hotel. I should state my travel preference for reference. I prefer a longer stay at a one hotel, using that as a base with a short timeframe like 7 days. Others may prefer moving around and staying multiple places. No single correct answer, I suspect. Consider your preferred travel style.
Thanks, ORD. That's our travel preference style, as well, at least when we can. I do like to stay planted for consecutive days where possible, and I thought that might be the case here. Good to know that you've done this, and would recommend both Segovia and Toledo. I think I am going to attempt to weave in both to our itinerary here. Appreciate the help.
I would say both are doable as day trips, and they’re fairly equally worth visiting. If I was forced to pick one, it’s Toledo because of the cathedral and historic areas of the city.
Madrid is also better for restaurants in my opinion so I would advise day trips for both and then dinner back in Madrid.
I certainly think so. Many years ago we drove through Spain for three and one half weeks and Toledo and Segovia remain the outstanding memories. Safe travels.
Thanks, Plectrude, and Denny. That confirms both destinations, and I will work them into our Madrid itinerary as day trips. I've seen a tour or two that offer both in one as a day tour, but that feels rushed to me. Both seem not too far from Madrid, so as to enjoy a full day at each.
I feel each is worth an overnight. On our trip in October 2024 we stayed at the Parador just outside of town for two nights. One gets a great view of the city from it. On a couple other trips we stayed at Hotel María Cristina. We last spent a night in Segovia in 2007. We always have a rental car.
