Toledo for two nights

Hi I am gradually making my way through booking our stays for Sept/ Oct - thanks to much help from this forum. I am currently looking at where to stay in Toledo.
We will be travelling via train from Madrid. I am looking at Hacienda del Cardenal, which seems to have rooms available for our stay, and looks a pretty unique place to stay. However, how accessible is it to the train station and / or the historic centre? I see it is near the escalators, but also read that these close at 10pm? Would that make it difficult to get back after a meal?
Opinions/ alternatives gratefully received. Thanks.

I considered staying at Hacienda del Cardenal, however, we chose to stay at Hotel Santa Isabel, right in the historic center near the cathedral.
Be warned, if you opt for this hotel, avoid staying in a room on the third floor, because you may get much noise from the roof terrace above.

If you plan to go to bed after 11:30PM, then it's a nonissue, because that's the time the terrace closes.

Enjoy Toledo, it's one of my favorite cities in Spain!

I forgot to mention something.

We took a taxi to/from the train station. It was not expensive & very convenient.

You may want to consider leaving some of your luggage at the Atocha train station in Madrid. My mom & I had one 22" carry on each, but we left one in the secured locker in Atocha's station. It was so much easier to lug one instead of 2!

Toledo's train station is very small, but it's so amazingly beautiful, you'll see!

Enjoy!

No hotels are close to the train station. You'll need a taxi or bus no matter.

I've stayed at Cardenal and loved it. Very historic spaces and good rooms and a great garden. The restaurant was nice but not memorable. The escalators make it easy to get up the hill and have a set of stairs along with them (if they do shut down you can always walk down the stairs). But it is a bit of a walk from the top of the escalators into the city center. I happen to think that is the charm of Toledo, exploring and getting a little lost, but that might not appeal to everyone.

Priscilla and Douglas thank you both for your advice. Priscilla, I did look at Hotel Santa Isabel as a possible alternative so appreciate your comments. Douglas thanks for your referral and advice re walking. .that's ok with us!

For two nights I also suggest that you stay someplace close to the center. That being said, getting lost is much of the fun. Make sure you include the Cathedral tour in your itinerary. Get there right at open and take it slow. Enjoy Toledo!

Thanks, everybody, we decided to go closer in and have booked La Posada del Manolo. Really looking forward to a couple of days in what sounds like a beautiful town.

In Toledo, I like the Hotel Eurico, which is in a restored 15th century building close to the ayuntamiento.
It is very Rick-ish, with great staff and worn out furnishings!

I stayed at La Posada del Manolo last year and enjoyed it. . . old building, rooftop views, good location very near the cathedral and the TI. A taxi from the train station cost me €9. Because I left my suitcase in a locker at Atocha (about €10 for 2 days), it was easy to take a bus back there (€1.40).
