Tips on 24 hr turnaround from Seville to MAD

Traveling 8 days with my teen sons to meet my daughter studying in Seville - we will stay in the south of Spain and travel to Marrakech for a few days so my questions regard the last 24 hours of our travel regarding high speed train (Renfre?) from Seville to MAD before we depart the following day. I am ready to purchase the train tickets in advance and was advised to book direct with Renfre into Madrid Puerta de Atocha. Agree?

I need to book a hotel to make the most of our night in Madrid which doesn't have to be right at the airport since our departure is next day @ 1pm. Anyone done something similar recently and love the location that work for these logistics?

Hi Collins,
It makes sense to book Seville to Atocha in advance, yes. Our ticket was Sevilla-Santa Justa to Madrid Pta Atocha. The trip took about three hours. In terms of where to stay, we were quite happy in the Sol-Gran Via area. Anywhere between there and Atocha gives you a pretty easy transfer by train back to the airport in the morning. Hotel Europa comes up quite a bit on this forum. It really is very central and we found it comfortable. The Gran Via itself is fantastic, especially if the weather allows for time on a rooftop terrace. There are several hotels that would do the trick depending on your budget. There's also a fantastic rooftop patio/food hall on the top of El Corte Inglés Callao; the food and drink are reasonable and the views are to die-for.

Enjoy!

Renfe is not the only train company doing the Seville—Madrid route with high-speed trains. There’s also IRYO, a private company; Ouigo Espana, a subsidiary of France’s SNCF train company ; and Avlo, a budget subsidiary of Renfe. You can get an idea of fares and schedules at www.TheTrainline.com before buying the tix from the train company’s own website.

Checking them all out will likely save you some euros on train fares.

I just used the Omigo app last week to book Sevilla to Madrid (Atocha) - you can pick between three carriers for the fastest trip. I chose AVE. Earlier in my trip I took OuiGo to Cordoba for a quick overnight and it was just fine.
I decided to stay one additional night in Sevilla and to take the 7 AM train to Madrid but not everyone likes to travel with such a tight timeframe (I had been staying in Sevilla for two weeks and really didn't want to leave). The Forum will give you lot's of recommendations for a hotel in Madrid (but be prepared for some sticker shock) and then I'd splurge in the AM by taking a cab, Uber or Cabify to simply your trip to MAD.
