Tips for public transportation in Madrid + Parque Warner

Hello! I'm trying to find the best way to get to and from Parque Warner while I'm in Madrid. We will not have a car but are not opposed to paying for taxis... we just prefer public transportation.

It looks as though I'd need to find my way to the Madrid South Station in order to catch a roundtrip bus to Parque Warner, and that Station is an hour away by public transportation from the city center. That doesn't sound very fun for the return trip, especially. Is this a time where I should splurge on a taxi? If so, how likely is it that I'll be able to hail a taxi from Parque Warner at midnight on a Monday?

Any other tips on public transportation as we navigate the city for the first time, and as very beginner-level Spanish speakers, are appreciated!

I took a bus to Ubeda from Estacion Sud earlier this year. I hate paying for taxis, but I did so in this case. Public tramsportation leaves you with something of a walk, and it looked like a hassle. I failed to record what I paid, but I think it was around 15 euros from a taxi stand not far from Atocha Station. We hit morning rush-hour traffic so it wasn't a super-fast trip even by taxi. If you don't already have bus tickets, you'll have to allow time for negotiating that line. They usually stop selling tickets 5 minutes before departure, but your bus may be different. You might even be able to pay the driver.

I don't know anything about Parque Warner. Rome2Rio.com says it's abour 21 miles from Atocha Station, and I assume a taxi would have to be paid for a return trip. Sounds expensive.

Midnight isn't particularly late in Spain, where the locals rarely sit down to dinner before 10 PM. Still, the situation you describe would make me very nervous--probably unjustifiably.

I hope we hear from someone who has actually been to the park.

Where are you starting from in Madrid? Assuming you mean the coach/bus station "Sur" it's next to the Méndez Alvaro metro stop, in line 6. An hour to get there from the city centre seems excessive, even if you have to change metro lines.

According to the park's website another option is to use the C3 commuter train - that can be caught at Sol station, which is very central - get off at Pinto, then use a bus to complete the journey.
