Timing from La Sagrada Familia to Parc Guell

We have a reserved time to visit La Sagrada Familia (I think ~9:30am) with the Nativity Tower access. We plan to visit Parc Guell on the same day. I see that I can also reserve a timed ticket for that as well but I am not sure what time to make that reservation. How long will it take to tour La Sagrada Familia and then make the journey to Parc Guell? It sounds like getting there is not as convenient as other places in Barcelona.

Do people recommend doing the Guided Tour of Parc Guell or just seeing it on your own?

We have 3 boys (ages 17, 14, and 11) so we want the most interesting things for them to enjoy. Also has anyone taken this age group to Montserrat as a day trip from Barcelona? How much time does this take to see - more than a half day?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You will want to give yourself some time at La Sagrada Familia (with your boys and given their ages, plan on 2 hours if you're doing the Nativity Tower). Park Guell is a long walk from La Sagrada Familia (I'm guessing 30-40 minutes walking - plus there are steep hills you must climb to reach Park Guell). I think a splurge on a taxi would be a good idea here or if you can patch this together with a hop-on-hop-off bus tour somehow (that's what we did but we weren't in a hurry). If you're going in summer, then walking is definitely out as it'll be very hot. Park Guell is fairly large and hilly, so it involves some walking once you are there too. Both sites are great - we just returned from our first visit to Barcelona a couple weeks ago. Enjoy!

We just left Barcelona a few days ago - traveling with our two teens girls.

Both Sagrada Familia and Park Guell are fantastic. We had a 9:15 entry to SF - plan to get there well ahead of that to give yourselves time to line up. They did let us in just a few minut s early and we went straight to the Passion Tower to go up. When we finished, we did the audio tour of the church. We like audio tours as we all learn a little something and the kids can go at their own pace.

Bills advice above is excellent - taxis are cheap and plentiful but I don't recall seeing more than a small handful of cars big enough to take 5 people. We also found it a bit of a challenge to get a taxi from the park (we ended up walking down the hill a good bit).

As far as timing - we spent two hours at SF - my husband could have stayed longer and my kids were done about 15 minutes before we let. 😊 We had timed tickets for Guell late in the afternoon - 6:30, I think? We got there an hour before and walked all through the open are (only the Momumental Zone requires ticket access). There is a big hill to climb and explore with great views in the park outside the monumental zone. We all loved it. We were there for about 2 and a half hours.

I'm not sure how much time you've allowed between entrance to La Sagrada Familia and the tower, but enjoy as much of the sanctuary as you can before you go up. We did not and I regretted missing the time with fewer tourists.

You need tickets for The Monuments Area of Park Guell and also Gaudi's house, but not the rest of the park. We liked seeing Gaudi's house, but didn't think it was a "must". We did love The Monuments area and did a leisurely stroll through. We scheduled our La Sagrada Familia visit for 9:15 and our Monuments entry for 1:00 (13:00). I like the other posts suggesting a lunch stop between the two.

Oh, I think the guys would really love Montserrat. We took the cable car up (when you buy your tickets you choose between the cable car or thecog railway) which was pretty neat, and there are plenty of areas to hike/walk or take another cable car further up the mountain. An early start could give you a nice half-day trip. The day we were there, the concert by the boys' choir only lasted 10 minutes, so make sure you're there a bit early if you want to hear them. The Madonna is also a highlight.
