Time between Trains in Madrid

Hi All!

Finalizing the details now for our Spain travels - we leave on Friday!

We have decided to make Toledo an overnight instead of just a day trip from Madrid. We will go to Toledo on Tuesday morning but must be back in Madrid (Atocha) for our AVE train to Barcelona (booked long ago) at 14:00. If I book a train departing Toledo at 12:25 that gets us into Atocha at 13:00, that gives us one hour to find our AVE train to Barcelona. Is this enough time? Or should I book the next-earlier train at 10:25 (with an 11:00 arrival to Atocha). I would rather have a more relaxed morning in Toledo before our train than have three hours to kill at the train station in Madrid with our luggage (we do pack light - each of us with just a carry on but still don't want to haul it around). But I would obviously NOT want to miss our train to Barcelona!

Thank you, experts!

Assuming there are no delays with the train, 1 hour connection is time is plenty! Even 30 minutes should be fine.

I had a half hour to make this exact connection, and still had a lot of time to kill! So you'll be fine.

However, one thing you do need to know. The trains from Toledo arrive at the lower level of Atocha Station, and the trains to Barcelona leave from the upper one. You can change between levels without going through security again, by taking the elevator that connects the waiting lounges. It's outside the lounge in the track area, near the high number tracks; ask for it if you can't find it on your own. This saves lots of time and hassle.

We were just there last week and your timeline will not be a problem, it is easy to navigate Atocha. 1 hour is plenty of time. If you rush, you could do it in 10 minutes probably.
