Thoughts on my 9 day itinerary starting in Madrid ?

Greetings all,

My wife and I are planning a trip this coming fall. Preliminary plans are landing in Madrid on a Tuesday morning, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in Madrid (with a day trip to Toledo squeezed in). Friday train down to Seville, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday in Seville (possible day trip included). Train back to Madrid on Tuesday, stay overnight in Madrid, flight back to NY on Wednesday.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!!!

Happy trails to all,
rc

Sounds nice to me! Some would press on at arrival and hop on a fast train to Sevilla so you can avoid that stray one-night stay at the end, but it does depend on how far you are traveling (coming from US east coast, it was an easy add-on).

I have an almost identical trip planned for next year—starting and ending in Madrid with Seville in between.

If the train station was right inside the airport and didn’t require reservations, I would probably head straight to Madrid. But, splitting it up, like you are doing, seems less stressful for that arrival day.

Have a great trip!!

Sounds lovely. We chose Segovia instead of Toledo, so I can't comment on that. In Seville, some sites offer free tickets on Mondays--we went to Palacio de Las Duenas, which was nice. Your time is limited to plan a day trip, but Cordoba Mezquita is amazing and not hard to get to for a few hours.

Pushing through and going straight to Seville sounds like a plan worth looking into. I wasn't a big fan on the one nighter in Madrid before flying . As for the day trip to Toledo, I'm still on the fence between that or Segovia. Thanks so much for the responses!

You could split 2 and 2 in Madrid. But, definitely head straight for Seville if you're up for it.

I think that's a good plan. My only suggestion is for the journey back from Sevilla to Madrid on Tuesday, you could break the trip in Cordoba for a few hours and visit the Mosque-Cathedral.

Do not miss Toledo. Also, a day trip to Segovia is nice. It has 1800 year old Roman aqueduct still intact.

I've done some of those week-long trips, long ago..sounds like a good plan, but do look into flying home from Sevilla to JFK with a change in Madrid. Iberia or American.

What it costs you extra in airfare, you will save on the train back to Madrid and another overnight at a hotel there..... I just last week flew into Sevilla...easy connections on either of those code-share carriers...(I prefer Iberia but both are ok)

Here’s another option:
Consider going to Córdoba on day of arrival, spend 1-2 nights before heading to Sevilla.

Córdoba is a great place to get over jet lag
and by staying an overnight you get to experience the magic of this beautiful city without the crowds of the day trippers.

I can say the same about Toledo which is very popular with day trippers but more noticeable since the historic center is smaller than that of Córdoba.

Enjoy your trip!

P.S.
Don’t miss going to Plaza de España in Sevilla!
