We have enjoyed dolmens at other places in Europe and were intrigued by the large one in Antequera. We are planning to visit though it seems the visit to dolmens may not be very long. What are other tips for an overnight stop in the village? Would we be better staying the night in a nearby village?
We’re headed there in a couple months for two nights. In addition to the dolmens I have visits to Reserva Natural de la Laguna de Fuente de Piedra (23 min.) and El Torcal de Antequera Parque Natural (26 min.) on the to visit list. The only other thing in town I have listed is the Alcazaba.
Also nearby are Castillo fortaleza de Archidona (25 min.), Fuente De Los 100 Caños (46 min.), and Castillo de Iznájar (50 min.)
We will have a rental car.
Will you have a car? Where are you coming from and going to?
I spent 1 night in Antequera and enjoyed exploring the town. I missed the dolmens - picked the only day of the week they were closed.
Antequera has about 40,000 inhabitants so a town more than a village. There's a historical centre, Alcazar, churches, excellent food and tapas. I've visited 3 or 4 times now because El Torcal is a magic place. But anyway Antequera is lovely for an evening stroll and one or several nights

We spent 5 days in Antequera two years ago and loved it. Food was excellent and varied, people were wonderful. Plenty to do and we'd be delighted to return. Spent much of our time wandering the old town and seeing the sights, but the dolmens (which were a long walk, but fun to see the "ordinary" neighborhoods) were especially amazing. Keep an eye out for posters for in town happenings--we attended a wonderful choral concert in one of the old churches. We attempted to eat our body weight in Semana Santa pastries (look for the cookie window at the Belen Convent for especially local versions) and very highly recommend the bar/restaurant Arte de Tapas.
