We'll be visiting the region this spring. Using the non-profit website www.worldsbestoliveoils.org, we were wondering how easy it is to buy some of these top-rated oils without visiting the places where they're produced. Are they commonly sold in grocery stores? Or maybe small local product shops?
(I'm not interested in ordering online)
I bought one of the Olive Oils on the list in a restaurant in Seville and came home and could not find it in any of the grocery stores in our area so I found it online and bought it that way.I know you dont want to buy online so good luck in your quest to find some of these great Spanish oils.

Maybe I should clarify that I'm wondering if they will be available in grocery stores or small local product shops in Andalucia. We are trying to figure out if we should allow extra time to visit one of these producers as we plan our drive from Cordoba to Rhonda. Any suggestions on where to buy high quality olive oil is appreciated.
Look for a big Carrefour supermarket during your travels. They should stock a wide range of varying quality.
However, it might be nice to stop if you find a visitor friendly producer along the way, as the story of production is quite interesting. In Jaen Province, near the gorgeous UNESCO listed Renaissance cities of Baeza and Ubeda, you will find olive groves as far as the the eye can see. Look out for the pottery "Tito" and buy some earthenware to serve your olive oil in. Sadly my Tito jug was a gift to my now ex-partner, and is no longer at my disposal. Gosh, such bitterness, you would think we were talking vinegar and not olive oil.

Olive oil is like wine; there are many different variations and I don't think there is something like the world's best olive oil as it depends on the use you want to give it. Do you want to cook with it? Do you want to fry with it? Do you want to use it in a salad? Do you want to use it for breakfast? These are just some of the consideration to bear in mind before you decide on the right type of olive oil. Now if it's the best in the world, that 's another question :-)
I personally like a relatively cheap olive oil from Jaen, but other people may prefer olive oil from Seville, Cordoba, Granada or even Malaga.
Laughing at davidjohn63 above, as I am davidjohn64.
Anyhow I contacted a friend in Spain for you, whose father is an olive and almond grower outside Granada.
He suggests this co-op based in Granada as a good source.

Thank you David from Brisbane! Great useful info. We're all about the olive oil. I cook with it, eat it, bathe in it, and wash our dog with it. Your links are going to be very helpful. We've already scoped out Finca la Torre in Bobbadilla to stop by and visit while we are in Ronda. Unfortunately we will not be able to check out the Jaen area, but there's always another trip. How very nice of you to contact your friend in Granada on our behalf. We will check it out. Thanks again and have a wonderful 2016!
Thanks Ray. Good luck to you too .. and with the militiamen in Oregon I was just reading about.
