The Way to be re-released May 16th

Rick posted that the movie "The Way" about walking El Camino and staring Martin Sheen is going to be re-released May 16th.

This is how I first heard about walking The Way .... and why I chose the cruise that I am taking in October.

On May 16, Rick hits the big screen in the re-release of The Way, a movie about walking the Camino de Santiago starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

What is the connection between your cruise and the Camino? Will you visit Santiago?

This was mentioned a couple weeks ago. It’s a good movie we’ve watched multiple times. All the sub stories are interesting. We planned much of our 2017 trip around places in the movie as well as the “Ocho Apellidos Vascos” movie that was filmed mostly in Zumaia and Gerraria.

Dang. We hunted for the movie -- even thought we found a bootleg version which turned out to not be the movie -- to get a sense of the Camino. Oh well. We're in St Jean Pied de Port now and start our walk on Monday. I guess we'll watch the film when we get home! Buen Camino!

yes, Sasha.

My cruise visits three ports in Spain. One is Vigo and I have booked an excursion to Santiago. I would never know about The Way and El Camino if i had not seen the movie many years ago at an AARP conference in Los Angeles. I was so touched by the movie that I developed a love for El Camino even before I knew it as El Camino..

When I was ready to book my next cruise, the fact that I could take an excursion to Santiago clinched it for me.

I have many posts on this forum asking about Santiago and El Camino and The Way. I did not fully understand what it was about but members on this forum helped me and now, I am better educated and much better understand

jaime ......

I saw the movie years ago in Los Angeles during an AARP conference. Martin Sheen and his son were there. I did not then understand The Way or El Camino but I fell in love with the scenery. i had never heard about El Camino.

And now I am going on a cruise in October and will take an excursion to Santiago ..

Apparently The Way will only be in theaters one day, May 16th. Tickets are already being sold on line. But I think there are other ways to view the movie including on Amazon Prime.

The good news is that the movie is being shown in some 900 theaters around the country. The bad news is that it is being shown on only May 16--and it appears that many theaters only once that night. However, the DVD can be easily bought, and many libraries have a copy.

Well, the movie played last night across the country, though for one night. I saw it for the first time in the movie theater. The crowd was very small, though relatively few know about the movie and far fewer knew it was playing last night across the country. Perhaps the movie appeals to certain demographics, but nearly everyone I know who has seen the movie has thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a brief introduction before the movie with Rick Steves and Martin Sheen advising that a segment on travel by the two would be showing after the movie. I missed it because I had forgotten about it and left the theater before the credits ended.

I do not understand why The Way movie has had such a limited release.

Surely Martin Sheen and his friends and family can afford to independently release the movie . Why has no studio picked up the movie?

Why has it not been picked up by a streaming service like Amazon Prime? I think that you can purchase it from Prime but it is not available free.
