Chris that site is very popular with the people who post here, and is often recommended for people asking basic questions about rail travel in every country in Europe.
It's a very informative website with great information. We use it a lot.
I use it all the time - for pictures of interiors, good ideas for city pairing, and for step-by-step details on train transfer info and timing.
Ditto the responses above. One of my go-to reference sites.
Mark, who is the "man", lol, is also a Destination Expert on the Trip Advisor Train Travel forum although he doesn't post a lot.
I also use it a lot. I like to check to see any seating recommendations he has. I'm currently looking at the Frecciarossa from Paris to Milan and he advises against booking a seat in Car 8 because they've done an outside advertising or decorative "wrap" on the car and your view is obstructed.
Rome2Rio is a good overview, but sometimes their conclusions are a little out, and sometimes their timings are too. Part of Tripadvisor I believe. They pass you through to the real transportation operator (probably take a cut).
The Man in Seat 61 is almost always perfectly accurate and extremely knowledgeable. He does what he does for the love of it. Like me he is from the British railway system. Always my go to guy.
Mark has done many very useful youtube videos of trains all over Europe and around the world now too.
Thanks, all of you, for your quick and helpful replies. Right now I'm working on getting from Barcelona to Cadaques via public transit, just for a day trip. I will check out this website and see what it can tell me about the train service between Barcelona and Figueres, as a start, and will probably plan on taking a taxi between there and Cadaques.
Chris
While is perfectly 'doable', I wouldn't recommend doing this on the same day, it's a bit of a pain in the neck, especially because there's a never-ending windy road in the last stretch arriving into Cadaqués.
What I would do: High-speed train (AVE or AVLO) from Estació de Sants in Barcelona to Figueres-Vilafant (~1h), then from there, either directly a taxi to Cadaqués (expensive!), or a walk to the centre of Figueres, and take bus 12 to Cadaqués (check Moventis.es for tickets and schedules).
I can only add to the positive recommendations above: I've consulted the "Man in Seat 61" regarding train travel in Spain, and in other countries; and he does what too few people do these days: he delivers. He promises good, accurate, comprehensive information, and you get it from him.
