My sister is coming to visit me in Madrid in April, and we want to take a weekend trip to the Canary Islands. We've never been before, and are trying to decide which to travel to, though: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, or Fuerteventura. They are all pretty similar in flight cost from Madrid, but it's hard to get a solid feel for which is going to be the best cost for the experience.
We both enjoy hiking, biking, water sports, etc., are open to trying new things, and want to do a fairly low-budget adventure, getting the most of the scenery with a minimal dip into the touristy activities. What I am hoping to find out is: Which island tends to be least expensive? Which is the most enjoyable? What are the must-dos of the island? Any other travel tips, insight or input you might have would be much appreciated.
