Rick's book recommends Aziz as his favorite guide in Tangier. I emailed him in July and reserved his services for a full day tour for Thursday. sept. 25. He responded quickly confirming that he or one of his colleagues would book our passage across the strait and he would send us the details and booking number. The trip is now a week away and despite several emails he has not responded since July. I'd like to have this prearranged before our flight to Spain 2 days from now. Have you any suggestions?
You may want to contact someone on the Rick Steves' Europe staff and ask if they can intervene since he's mentioned in Rick's book. You can contact a member of Rick's staff by phone or on this website.
First, make sure to check your junk mail folder just in case the reply got filed there. I've had that happen.
Did they provide a phone number? At this point, if it were me, I'd call.
When all else fails:
Line up the ferry yourself, it's not going to be full.
Do it without a guide like most people do, it ain't hard.
Hi there. We just responded to your email too but you can contact Aziz on his toll free number from the U.S.: 1-888-745-7305. We hope it works out, he's a fantastic guide.
We are planning a Gibraltar, Tangiers side trip the first week in October. We thought the guide might be a good idea for a few hours. Ed, do you really think it's not necessary?
I don't know anyone who's used a guide.
Getting around through the souks, medina, Kasbah, etc is simple. The zoo disappears once you're a hundred yards from the ferry.
If you don't want to read up on history, a guide might help, but you can get a good dose of that if you have time for the legation museum.
Tangier isn't my favorite part of Morocco by a long shot, but it's certainly not a wasted day on your own.
