Tangier for a day

We are thinking of hiring a guide recommended in Rick's guidebook - Aziz Benami. If you've been, how was it and what do you recommend asking the guide to see?

We took a day trip to Tangier two weeks ago and used a guide, Hamid Benamar http://www.tangiertourguide.com.

Whilst we didn't think much of Tangier, Hamid himself was an excellent guide. His correspondence prior to the trip was prompt and informative, he will book the ferry tickets and send you a code to use at the ferry terminal whilst you reimburse him the cost of the tickets at the end of the tour. He ferries you around Tangier in a minivan with a driver and whilst we didn't have any specific places in mind we just let him dictate the tour himself. In hindsight we wouldn't have gone to the camel ride (only our youngest rode a camel) or the snake 'charmer' (aka the snake taunter!) as we don't enjoy seeing animals exploited for entertainment. We also cut short the visit to the souk as we were tired of the constant hassle to buy overpriced tat (€50 to buy a lantern that would cost £5 in the UK!).

What we didn't like about Tangier was out of the control of Hamid, he himself is a very personable and knowledgeable (if not slightly biased towards some historical facts) guide and I highly recommend him.

Hi. We have arranged to take a trip with Azaz Benami in mid May. He provided me with a VERY detailed itinerary which covers the typical highlights of Tangier (Cape Spartel, camel stop, Hercules Cave, city center, lunch, Kasbah and Museum, Medina walking tour drinks at Petit Socco) as well as arranged the ferry for us. I can let you know how it goes if you'd like.
