Taking the AVE to Barcelona

Hi,

I hope all is well.

I'm have to go from Madrid to Barcelona to fly out.

My flight leaves Barcelona on Friday 7 a.m to L.A.

I was wondering if people could recommend taking the ave late at night at 2 a.m to get back to Barcelona to make my flight?

Also, does anyone know how far the AVE train station is from the airport?

The AVE goes to Barcelona Sants station. I don't see a 2:00 train and wouldn't take it if there was one.

Barcelona's main airport is 20 minutes away on the R2 Sud Rodalies train but that train only goes to Terminal 2 at the airport, so allow extra time if you need to get to Terminal 1.

With a 7 AM departure, you have to be in Barcelona (or a Barcelona airport hotel) the night before your departure. Any other plan is too risky. Remember that you need to be at the airport 2-3 hours before departure (exactly how long depends on your route; if you're going nonstop to the US, you need more time than if you're connecting at another European airport first).

At that hour, a taxi from central Barcelona to the airport will take less than a half hour. But it's probably easiest to get a room at an airport hotel and plan to arrive the evening before.

The last train from Madrid to Barcelona leaves around 9.30 and arrives just before midnight. It's a 10-15 minute walk to Plaza Espana to catch the Aerobus to the airport. The bus runs every 10 minutes. The last bus leaves from Plaza de Catalonia at 0.30 am, so it gets to Plaza Espana a few minutes later. The R2 train doesn't run between midnight and 5 am.

You'd have to leave a Barcelona hotel in the middle of the night to get to the airport by taxi otherwise. Or spend the night at the airport. Dealer's choice.
