Our My Way tour ends in Seville Sunday, May 28. Our plan is to take the fast train to Cordoba that morning to visit the Mezquita and attend the Solem Mass. What’s the best game plan? Will we be allowed to wander before or after the service? Does Solem Mass include music? I’d love to hear from someone who has done this.
Sharon,
My mom and I attended the mass at the Mezquita on a Sunday at 1:30pm.
I don't recall any music during the mass.
No one is allowed to linger before or after the service and everyone is ushered out rather quickly after the mass.
Keep in mind that you may not be allowed into the Mezquita unless you clearly state, to the guard at the door, that you want to attend the mass.
As I recall, the Mezquita was rather dark during the mass but the cathedral within was beautifully illuminated.
I returned to the Mezquita on a separate visit (with a ticket) and lingered as long as I desired.
Enjoy your trip!
We went in 2013 and I believe we went to an early Mass and just remained after to walk through the Mezquita. We were there a little earlier than most of the tourists by about 10 minutes and got great pictures without the crowds. That had not been our intention, it just happened that way. Solemn Mass usually includes some music. We attended Mass on a Saturday and my notes say there were 7 priests in vestments and 5 in msgr. robes. Lots of singing but no sermon.
