Summer in Madrid!

Hi from NYC!
Going to Madrid for the first time this summer with my sister and mother for 10 days. I’m usually good with researching but did t realize how incredibly hot it’s going to be in July! But at this point trip is booked and looking for suggestions. Originally was going to book Barcelona but ended up booking Madrid. We are opened to traveling to other parts of Spain via train since we are pretty much in the middle of Spain. Any itinerary ideas? Obviously no beaches in Madrid, any suggestions for day trips to the beach, we would even do over night.

TIA!!

Average Temps in July:

NYC 84 high 69 low rain 8 days
Madrid 89 high 66 low rain 1 day

You will think you are home....and you will be right. Madrid is a wonderful place!
I will leave the itinerary suggestions to others.....I could put you to sleep with my recommendations.

Hopefully you have a place with great a/c, maybe a pool? Good strategies besides finding cooler daytrip locations, would be getting up early. Finding a place to have your big meals mid day, for like 2 hours. Looking for indoor activities (museums) during the heat of the day. Smaller meal in the evening, like tapas. Is your hotel booked for 10 days or are you saying you are flying in and out of Madrid? If that's the case, you could travel to San Sebastian or some of the French Basque cities on the coast for 4-5 days. Another idea would be a 4-5 day trip to Catlunya, spending time on the Costa Brava in/near Cadques or Sitges.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. We are booked for the 10 days but we got a good deal, so if we had to we would be ok going somewhere else for maybe2 nights. Barcelona was much more expensive so we figured book Madrid and travel. Going to the islands is much more expensive looking to maybe go to the coast. But again WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SPAIN. just the language :0)

If you can speak Spanish, you are well ahead of me! I wonder if you could find a small resort or hotel with a pool in rioja or so? Do you like wine?

I’m not a huge fan of wine but I will definitely drink it while I’m in Spain! How can I not! So for those 10 days I will like wine.
