We have been invited to spend a week at an RCI resort near Malaga, Spain in January. We are not sure how far it is from the closest airport to our resort. We will basically be on our own while we are there. We would like to hire a driver/guide to take us around to see the area. We understand that there is a Picasso Museum there. Any one have any experience or can recommend a driver/guide?
Thank you!
No suggestions on specific drivers. But it looks like there are several RCI resorts in the area, the two most likely are most of the way to Marbella from Malaga, some 30 miles from Malaga. For a car or taxi, you are talking 45 min to an hour to Malaga, a little less from the airport in Malaga. There is bus service, that would probably be over an hour. This area of the Spanish coast is pretty well known for resorts, ex-pat towns. Pretty well kept, good variety of restaurants, many upscale, shopping, probably more geared to visitors than authentic and rustic Spanish fishing villages.
Malaga is the nearest airport, no direct flights from the US, so you would go through a larger airport in Europe to get there. Flying into Madrid, and taking the fast train to Malaga (about 3 hours) is also an option.
There is a Picasso Museum in Malaga, he was born there, left at 10, and famously vowed to never go back. The museum is one of several started by family members, it is pretty well respected, but like most of these museums, it features early and lesser known works, still worth a visit if you are a fan. Lots of other things to do in Malaga, so well worth a day or two. There are likely also tour companies near the resort that can do day trips to the white villages, Gibraltar, Seville, or other spots.
