Suggestions for Asturias and French border area

Hello! I'll be traveling around Spain for 21 days in September and could use a few suggestions. First, we will be traveling from Barcelona to San Sebastian by car, and will likely spend one night in the Pyrenees near the border and three nights in France. We are looking at either Salardu or Tramacastilla for the first night and then 3 in the Pau area on the way to San Sebastian. Any tips on anything cool or good places to stay along this part of the route would be appreciated.

After 6 days in San Sebastian, we are doing three in Asturias before driving back to Madrid. I want to focus on culinary/seafood/cheese and natural beauty (coastline/mountains), though I already live in a remote mountain location, so I don't necessarily seek out isolation, I'd like a place with a good selection of restaurants and a few fun things for the kids to do, but would rather keep it small. A nice waterside community with easy access to the Picos, great food experiences nearby, and stunning scenery would be my choice unless someone can suggest otherwise. Any tips on where the best place to base ourselves in Asturias for these three days would be appreciated!!

Best,
Chris

Very generically, the towns of Getaria are nice for a short visit. There is supposedly a nice cheese market in Cangas de Onis (you'd need to check which day of the week) with lots of vendors. It is very near the Picos de Europa. Further west is Cathedral Beach (praia catedrales) near Ribadeo. Along that stretch of the coast there are a number of beaches. Even further west is Cabo Ortegal. It affords a great view and sits out on a spot of la d. Years ago when I was there, there were wild horses up there.

You don't say how old your kids are, but if they 7 and older, here is something you and they might be interested in. There is a cave with prehistoric paintings in the town of Ribadesella. There is a museum and visitor center, as well, where they do hands-on workshops. You need to have reservations. You can find everything you need to know about it by googling, "Tito Bustillo cave."
