Suggestions as to Where

Hoping for suggestions as to what area best suites our needs. We're a couple, husband will be 67 in Aug., I'll be 61 in Aug. I have mobility issues and will need to use a handicapped power scooter. We really want to spend some time at an amazing beach, one with warm water and gentle waves. ( I'm able to swim). Historic sites and streets that are suitable for use of a handicap scooter. Thank you in advance for any info.

When is your trip ? The only place I can think of that would be good for you is Malaga. It's flat, has historic sites and a beach. May I ask how do you transport the scooter and get down to the water at the beach ? I also have monility issues but don't have a scooter (yet).

I hope folks come up with some good suggestions for you. I'm wondering, though, whether Spain is the best place to find your "amazing" beach, given how packed most readily-accessible European beaches seem to be. Many of the beaches are rocky, which I assume eliminates them from your consideration automatically. And plenty of 100% mobile people will be looking for a comfortable spot on a sandy beach, thus competing with you for space. Honestly, I'd spend my Spain time sightseeing and get my beach vacation back in the US.

Yes, Spanish beaches can be horribly crowded, but we go to Mojacar where the beaches are uncrowded and sandy. Shh, don't tell the masses about it ! But, the town is hilly and lacks major historic sights. Otherwise, it's heaven !

Oh yes, and the water is warm. Not Carib warm, but warmer than any other place.

Cadiz beaches are sandy and flat and wheelchair access. Nice restaurants along the water too.

I’ll add to Bedar’s comment on Mojacar. We stayed at the Parador there a couple years ago and were very pleased with it. Directly across the street is the beach. It’s a nice sandy beach and not very wide, so getting to the water is a very short walk. From the Parador to the beach it is completely paved and less than 200 yards. If you don’t want to use the beach, you can go to the hotel pool. The Parador is a newer one, not a historic building like many others, and is scooter accessible. Outstanding breakfast buffet. In addition to the hotel restaurant, there are some nearby reastaurants, but the Parador isn’t in the main part of town. On the down side, it’s just a beach and nothing really historic about the town. Almeria is a nice somewhat nearby town with some history and a nice alcazaba/castle and market. It’s good for a full day’s visit.
