Can anyone suggest an itinerary for Spain for 2 1/2 weeks with a heavy emphasis on time in villages? We are interested in a few days in Barcelona and San Sebastian based on friend's recommendations. We usually prefer 3 nights at a location.
Hello Larry,
I assume that you are traveling by car.
North of Barcelona:
Girona
Figueres and Port Lligat ( Salvador Dali stuff)
In the South
Malaga : Costa Del Sol area
Tarifa: beach town
Hill towns:
Ronda
I consider Granada to be a larger hill town.
Seville is fabulous: if your there during the Feria de abril, Sevilla is a must!
I love getting lost in the old city of Seville.
Near Madrid:
Segovia, Salamanca and Toledo
Hope this helped.
Have a wonderful trip. Our family hasn't been to San Sebastian or Bilbao , but would love to go there next!
You want 6 destinations for 3 nights each (making a total of 2.5 weeks).
And have already given Barcelona and San Sebastian.
Choosing 4 other places (towns rather than villages)...
Salamanca
Segovia or Toledo (day trip to Madrid)
Jerez de la Frontera (day trip to Sevilla)
Granada

Time of year makes a difference. Winter - go south. Summer - do NOT go south. Shoulder seasons - lots of festivals, hit them or avoid them, what's your preference. Also, the route depends on your gateway airports.
