I had terrible trouble trying to enter my cell phone number until finally I realized that the prefix should be +1 not the automatically entered 34. After scrolling all the way to the top of the options for the phone number prefix and entering +1 first, I was able to enter my cell phone number without any dashes and it worked! I did the PayPal option, as was suggested by a previous traveler. I was able to successfully purchase train tickets from Barcelona to Madrid.
After reading on this topic, I decided to buy tickets on this site:
https://loco2.com/destinations/trains-spain
Same price, english is perfect, and much easyer to enter your info.
I tryed on Renfe site and wasn’t able to do what you did. :-)
I bought 2 times in june and everything went smoothly
I also used Loco2.com to buy AVE tickets for May & June. I monitored Renfe website to see when they opened up my routes, checked their prices, and then went to Loco2.com which was the same price.
I bought 3 sets of tickets on the Renfe site. I did Español for the challenge.
1. First pair was easy. I entered info and then Visa credit card (click yes to remember it) and the order went thru.
2. Had a problem with the next pair. Would not accept the Visa card and the price kept changing. I then used my AMEX card (did not click to remember) and it went thru.
3. Repeated AMEX process with 3rd pair.
And, I did encounter the annoying default to España for the mobile phone country code.
