I wanted to see the Mezquita in Cordoba, I've never gotten off mid train ride, if the seats are assigned wouldn't I have to buy 2 separate train tickets? All my European train journeys have been from homebase to homebase, never a short day trip in the middle. I know I will have to walk across to bus station to store my luggage. From my research on a busy day, they fill up by 9am.
You would purchase 1 train ticket
Madrid to Cordoba
And 1 train ticket
Cordoba to Sevilla
There are no hop on hop off trains that I am aware of
Yup- two separate tickets.
I did Cordoba as a stopover in June 2022. I bought two separate train tickets.
I have a lot of details on the logistics of my day in one of my previous posts: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/stopover-visit-to-cordoba-lots-of-logistical-details-included
Good luck!
^ Thanks for such a descriptive account.
I will try to drop off luggage by 9/930am but worst case scenario there should be other private luggage facilities.
This is embarrassing, I meant from Madrid to GRANADA, I checked rome2rio seems like I can still plan a stop in Cordoba.
You will still need 2 separate tickets
Rome2rio is a fun and fairly useful tool for starting your research
But always go to the official train site for accurate info
www.Renfe.com
Or download the easy to use Renfe app
RafaFan- Granada is tougher as a day visit, as it has a fair bit more to explore.
(While one could happily spend more than a day in Coroda, the reality is that the Mezquita is the real draw, and maybe the only incomparably unique site in the city)
I was planning on spending few nights in Madrid then stop in Cordoba for few hours on way to Granada where I will stay 2 nights, the first night is a wash since I will be coming in late for Cordoba. Now that I think of it, I will probably stay 3 nights in Granada to makeup for time spend in Cordoba.
RafaFan- that sounds like a solid plan.
