Stopover between Leon and Santiago de Compostela

Interested in checking out the Pallozas in either Piornedo or O Cebreiro. Any recommendations?

Not sure what recommendations you’re looking for.

O Cebreiro doesn’t take long to visit, maybe an hour, but worth stopping at. It is right on the Camino de Santiago. Not sure when you intend to visit, but when we were there in late May 2017 the temperatures was about 33 degrees.

If you planned on spending a night, there are very very few accommodations. We stayed in Villafranca del Bierzo at the Parador before visiting O Cebreiro. West of O Cebreiro is Lugo that is worth a day. We stayed there in 2019.

A couple other places to consider stopping at between León and Santiago are Hospital de Óbrigo for its bridge, Astorga, and Ponferrada.

Curious if worth a stop, and if anyone had a preference of one or the other locations.. Appears the Piornedo location may be a bit more challenging to get to. I couldn't find many reviews. Appreciate the reply!

I haven’t been to Piornedo, Cervantes, but it is much further off the A-6 and the road is very, very rural; narrow, no centerline, and mountainous. While it would take 42 minutes to reach Piornedo from Pedrafita do Cebreiro, getting to O Cebreiro takes about 10 minutes. The road to O Cebreiro is uphill from Pedrafita. Parking is just before the hamlet on the left, near the church.

As long as you’re there, drive the extra 2-3 miles further down the road to see Alto de San Roque. It affords a nice view of the surrounding area. Both O Cebreiro and Alto de San Roque are on the Camino de Santiago.

Definitely stop.

If you do stop in Astorga, there is a large, free, public parking lot below the palace (down the hill) ekscrunchy mentioned.
